AMA Supermoto Championship, Round 2Stafford springs, CT
August 10 2008: Stafford Springs, CT. After a long 2800 mile trek to Stafford Springs, Connecticut, our team arrived at the venue for round 2 of the AMA Supermoto National Championship. Last season this event proved to be a huge success with spectator volume, and with ex racing legend Doug Henry promoting the event, it once again produced a fine showing.
In qualification the racing industry suffered the devastating loss of 250 lites rider, Tony Hart. His untimely death was due to a dismount in a fast section, which resulted in a severe injury in which he was unable to recover from. This unexpected tragedy resonated throughout the supermoto race scene, and, obviously, clouded the days activities. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hart family and friends.

“It was important for me to get a solid result today and not to let the other guys get too many points on us. This championship is long, and now that I have started to recover from my broken wrist, and with today’s 2nd place, I feel the racing is just getting started for me now, and really look forward to the next few rounds. I have moved into 3rd in the championship so I plan to keep the pressure on, and start winning some races to get to the top of the ledger board.” Commented Darryl after the race. ![]()
Benny added: “I did not get the result I wanted in the heat race as I went down in the dirt section. That did grid me in a good position, (lining up on the third row) however, I made some aggressive passes on the first lap, and worked my way back up to 6th. Had I had a better start, I felt we could have gotten on the podium today.” The next round is in Shawano WI, which is the home track for Carlson, so the Team has high hopes for both riders at round 3.

We ran into some huge hurtles this week with our transporter breaking down on the way, and also with the loss of a rider. The Team pulled it all together to put us in a good spot to win another National championship, and without the outstanding support and work from the team crew - Amauri Nunes, Steve Mora, Chuck McCarty, John Weiss, and Ed Cook, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this. A special Thank You goes out to Paul Thede, and the Race Tech team - not only for their great support, but for coming to the rescue with a vehicle to make it to this event.
