Pre-entry requirement
announced for the July 15
Taco Bell Ogemaw Hills Supermoto Spectacular
downtown street race in Michigan
Race will be held on the West Branch streets with
racer entry deadline July 10
WEST BRANCH, Mich. (June
27, 2011) –
Athletes from across the country and Canada will head to
Michigan on Friday, July 15 for the through-the-streets Taco
Bell Ogemaw Hills Supermoto Spectacular. The promoter,
MISuperMoto.com, announces today a pre-entry requirement due to
travel considerations and in order to set the grids prior to the
event. Race entries will be accepted through Sunday, July 10.
More than 30 riders have
committed to the supermoto race, including Pro Class entrant
Brian Swink, a member of the Michigan Mafia and a two-time AMA
125cc Supercross Champion and a multi-time AMA National
Motocross winner, as well as every Michigan Supermoto
Championship class leader this season. All the committed
athletes have a racing background, including the Beginner Class
entrants, who have competed in supermoto at least once.
The Taco Bell Ogemaw Hills
Supermoto Spectacular will start on the main street of downtown
West Branch, Michigan as part of the
annual Ogemaw Hills Bike
Week. On a summer Friday evening, spectators will line the
sidewalks to watch the riders take off and back-it-in to the
first turn, down a short elevation side street and then up into
a parking lot where there will be a temporary dirt section.
Jumping through the dirt section with various combinations of
obstacles and then they’ll jump out onto the street again, up a
slight elevation, backing-it-in to the left down the other side
of main street and then a 180-degree turn to complete their lap.
“We are making sure that racers
who want to compete at our downtown supermoto event make it to
the grid,” said MISuperMoto.com’s Dave Duprey. “The pre-entry
requirement ensures that racers won’t delay in making their
travel plans either. This also eliminates us from having to
manage sign-up on race day. Every day, we are working to make
certain that the Taco Bell Ogemaw Hills Supermoto Spectacular is
one of the safest, most organized street-based supermoto events
to ever take place, appreciated by racers and fans alike. There
will be no racer entry sign-up on race day, so don’t delay and
sign up today!”
The Taco Bell Supermoto
Spectacular will have four classes: Beginner, Amateur, Vet 35+
and Pro. Beginner and Amateur class riders must have either
earned points in the 2011 Michigan Supermoto Championship in
order to enter the race or have competed in organized supermoto
events previously. Vet 35+ Class riders who are amateur level
must also meet the same requirements. Pro class entrants qualify
in one of two ways: You have either earned points in the
2011 Michigan Supermoto Championship Pro Class or you have held
or currently hold a pro racing license or have race experience
from a recognized sanctioning body including AMA, WERA, ESMRA,
Superbikers2 and SupermotoUSA.
The Taco Bell Ogemaw Hills
Supermoto Spectacular program will begin with two practice
sessions for each class and then the main events for each class.
The rider fee is $90 which includes race entry and pit gate fee.
Crew members will also pay the $10 pit gate fee. Spectators are
free. Riders who plan to compete in more than two classes can
enter the second class for $25. MISuperMoto members get the
second class for free. Points will be awarded for each class
towards the 2011 Michigan Supermoto Championship as well as
event points towards podium awards and a cash purse for the Pro
Class.
Gates will open for racers at 2
p.m. on Friday, July 15.

For the past five years,
MISuperMoto.com held a supermoto race in a high school parking
lot during the annual Ogemaw Hills Bike Week. It was time to
take the event to the next level, switch the date from a
Thursday night to a Friday and slide it over to the streets. It
has been a shared effort between the promoter MISuperMoto.com,
the Ogemaw Hills Bike Week organizers including Kerry Klug, West
Branch Chamber of Commerce, West Branch City Council, West
Branch City Manager Tom Youatt, West Branch Fire Department,
West Branch Police Department, Ogemaw County Sheriff, and the
Michigan Department of Transportation.
