Andrew Hyder and Ron Meredith top the Dean Arbour Ford
MISuperMoto Race during Ogemaw Hills Bike Week

Twenty-eight amateurs and pros from the Midwest competed in the evening race

West Branch, Mich. (July 17, 2008) – A clear summer day brought supermoto racers from Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana to Ogemaw High School in West Branch, Michigan for the second annual Dean Arbour Ford MISuperMoto Race on Thursday, July 10 as part of Ogemaw Hills Bike Week. Ohio resident Andrew Hyder won the Dean Arbour Ford Pro Class and took home $1,500, while Michigan’s Ron Meredith topped the Amateur Class, presented by Moose Racing.

Fans turned out to watch some great racing action, notably during the pro main event that had four lead changes. The course was laid out in the parking lot of the Ogemaw Hills High School and traversed up a hillside for the dirt section that included a triple jump. Only a few riders were able to make the triple jump. There was also a dirt double jump and a steel ramp along the asphalt section.

The qualifying races started at 4 p.m. with the main events at 7 p.m. The Amateur Class featured three, eight-lap heat races with four riders advancing from each and a six-lap last chance qualifier with two riders advancing to the 15-lap main event. The Pro Class had two, eight-lap heat races with all 12 riders advancing to the 20-lap main.

“We are very happy with the turnout and the fans got to see great racing,” said Dave Duprey of MISuperMoto. “Our goal is to bring more riders and fans to each event to expose them to supermoto and we accomplished that this year. The weather was great and fortunately the rain held off until afterwards. I would like to thank Dean Arbour Ford and the organizers of Ogemaw Hills Bike Week for supporting this race. We hope to see everyone at the MISuperMoto X on August 16 in Clio, Michigan.”

Hyder won his heat race and was in the lead in the pro main within the first ten laps after original race leader, Timm Kiener, crashed. After a few laps, Hyder was then passed by Jason Hine. Hyder moved back into the lead with six laps to go. Both riders were competing on 250cc four strokes while many others were on 450cc bikes. Hyder donated some of his winnings to a local motorcycle charity.

This was the first supermoto race for Adam Beldyga who finished third in the Pro Class. Having never competed in supermoto, he originally planned to run the Amateur Class. After posting fast practice times and talking with the race organizers, Beldyga decided to run the Pro Class and was one of a handful of riders to do the dirt triple which contributed to his third place finish.

Meredith got the holeshot in the Amateur Class main event and never relented, much like in his heat race.
