Supermoto-USA Pro Unlimited Race May 17 @ Infineon Raceway

May 18 2008

The stepping stone to the AMA Pro Series, Supermoto-USA, ran a full slate of races at the "perfect for Supermoto", Infineon Raceway Kart track Saturday, including a pair of bar-bangin' Unlimited Pro Races with AMA regular and Mach1 Motorsports racing's Steve Drew taking the overall win via his Race #2 win!!

It was an exciting exciting pair of races.....(scored in Moto-X style with the second race holding the tie breaker over the first race results) with the podium filled with all three of the local, Vallejo California based, Mach1 Motorsports team riders, Steve Drew, Danny Casey and Casey Yarrow. At the front on both starts however was N.Cal rider Justin Ross who rode fantastic.....(and very stylishly) to a very respectable 4th overall. Justin will be riding for the newly formed ATK squad when the AMA season gets underway at Seattle in July.

Race #1 was a wild wild race for Drew as he passed early leader Ross in the first of two dirt sections for the lead on the first lap only to tuck the front end going into the dirt section on the start of lap two. Picking the bike up and getting back at it meant picking off riders one by one as the super smooth Arizona based Drew rode through the field from 9th to get all the way back to 3rd at the finish following a tight battle between his other Mach1 teammates, Casey Yarrow and Danny Casey. The two Casey's put on a show as Danny dogged Casey all the way to the checkers.

Race #2 was another hole shot by the KTM riding Ross with Yarrow, Casey, Carey Hart and Tyler O'Hara in hot pursuit. Danny Casey was able to get past Ross and led from him then Drew, Yarrow, O'Hara, Hart and Michael Corbino. By lap 3 Drew had got past Ross and set his sights on Casey knowing he had to win to get the overall and the $1000 paycheck for the win. The next couple laps featured Casey dogged by Drew who'd opened up a little gap on Yarrow who was followed by first lap leader Ross. Drew, riding so smoothly that he didn't look like he was even pushing the pace, got by Danny Casey and kept his head down all the way to the checkers to cap off a great day for the "Working Man" racer Drew. It was a great day of racing put on by the fantasticly organized and professionally run Supermoto-USA organization, run by one of the original Supermoto promoters in the USA, Brok McAlister, his lovely wife Piper and dedicated and hard working group of volunteers.
